15.05.16 – Great Wall of China, Beijing, China

The Great Wall of China was a no brainer. Nothing else came close. We were in Beijing for 5 days and the day we spent at the wall was the best of the lot and absolutely magnificent.  Bianca really enjoyed coming for a second time, Feb 2012 was the first visit, it was in the depth of a Chinese winter. This time we got to see the wall in all its glory; blue skies and green trees.

We visited two sections of the Great Wall (Gubeikou and Jingshanling). Gubeikou is a section that is in its original state and Jingshanling has been restored. Both areas are not ‘touristy’and over the course of the entire day (11am to 10pm) we saw just two other tourists. It was incredible and the day was capped off with watching Golden Hour, sunset at the Great Wall, from an amazing vantage point.

For 600Yuan each (approximately $120AUD), everything included, it was worth every cent. We decided to pay extra for a small group tour after having a great experience with the same company on a walking tour the day before. (Rather than taking a cheap tour run by our hostel).

Hey guys, we’re traveling to China in mid-October and were wondering what tour companies you can recommend to visit the Great Wall (Jingshanling hike). At what time did you leave Beijing to be in time for sunset? 🙂

    1. Hello!
We highly recommend http://www.beijingwalking.com. It’s runs by a guy called Leo, and he is fantastic! They only take small groups, and he and his other guide are both amazing! We did a full day tour with them, which finished with the sunset at night, I think pickup was about 10 o’clock.
The company also do a free walking tour of Beijing, and that was also a highlight – if you have time fit it in!!

      Safe travels!
